"A Christian Education for Elementary & Middle School Students"

School Profile

Z L Sung School is a non-profit private Christian school that enjoys the reputation as one of the finest 1st through 8th grade institutions in the area. The school is dedicated to the purpose of fostering students' spiritual gifts and talents, developing academic skills necessary for college preparation, developing critical thinking skills in students, facilitating computer literacy, encouraging social and personal growth, and developing leadership skills and respect for authority.

The school is open to public community and is a ministry of Gainesville Seventh-day Adventist Church, a Bible-based, Christian denomination. Z.L. Sung School supports the beliefs, standards, and ideals of its church. A board of directors elected supervises its operations.

The school year runs from August through May.

Our school is located on 39th Avenue behind the Church in Gainesville, Florida. The physical facilities presently include separate classroom for elementary, middle and high schools and a gymnasium.

Our Mission

The supreme goal is to bring the mind of each student into communion with the mind of God, for this is the highest form of education. Always remembering that God is the source of all knowledge, and therefore must be a part of all learning in a way that will produce a balanced individual and a productive and competent citizen. Honesty, integrity, and compassion for others will be character hallmarks which are taught and practiced by the student body and faculty of this school. "Every human being, created in the image of God, is endowed with a power akin to that of the creator-individuality, power to think and do. It is the work of true education to develop this power, to train the youth to be thinkers and not merely reflectors of other men's thoughts." Ed., p. 17.

To honor and serve God by providing a Christ-centered educational environment that is an extension of the Christian home, that is accessible to a broad cross-section of the Christian community, that meets the needs of students with varying scholastic aptitudes through a balanced emphasis on academic excellence and continuous spiritual growth and service, and in so doing is widely recognized and respected.

Education Philosophy

We believe Education "Is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers . . ." and that its highest purpose is to "prepare the student for the joy of service in this world, and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come." Ed., P. 13. The principles of Christianity can and should touch every aspect of living for every child. Each student has the right to an education experience which develops his individual talents to the highest level according to the union between religious faith and life.
Academic Excellance

We offer the advantage of a lower student/teacher ratio than can provided by most public schools. This ratio, combined with a loving but firm approach to discipline and dress code, promotes an atmosphere in which learning can take place.

Z.L. Sung School is fully accredited through FAANS, the Florida Academic Association of Nonpublic Schools. Its educational program is approved by the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and recognized by the State of Florida.
About Our Teachers

The teachers are certified professionals dedicated to providing a Christ-centered education of excellence for their students. They maintain the required certifications, and nearly half of the teachers have masters degrees. Equally important is the fact that our teachers form close, loving relationships with their students, seeking to challenge each one to do his or her best.

"The true teacher is not satisfied with second-rate work. They are not satisfied with directing the students to a standard lower then the highest which it is possible for them to attain. They cannot be content with imparting to them only technical knowledge... It is his or her ambition to inspire them with principles of truth, obedence, honor, integrity, and purity ... principles that will make their students a positive force for the stability and uplifting of society. He or she desires them, above all else, to learn life's greate lesson of unselfish service." ED

Nondiscrimination

The Christian school admits students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school-administered programs.
