New Legislation Will Benefit Many Families

A new Florida law became effective January 2002 that enables families who meet certain criteria the opportunity to receive up to $3,500 per year in scholarship funds for each child (Grades K-12) who transfers from a public school to an eligible private school. The new law allows corporations to direct up to 75% of their state tax liability to a non-profit scholarship funding organization.

Florida Conference has selected Florida Child to process applications and award scholarships to eligible students. Here at Z. L. Sung School we are looking for qualified Adventist children who currently attend public school. Parents of these children are encouraged to take advantage of the new scholarship funds.

If you qualify or know of any families who may qualify under the income guidelines (see chart below), please call the school or Principle to complete a Florida Child application. These scholarships will provide a wonderful opportunity for children to enroll in our school.

Tuition Payment Policy

Z. L. Sung endeavors to keep the cost of Christian education as low as possible so that all Adventist young people can attend. The following statement outlines the general financial practices that are important to the parents and/or financial sponsor.

Previous Balances: The account for the previous year’s expenses at any Seventh-day;Adventist educational institutions must be settled before a student is permitted to enroll for the current school year. Any delinquent accounts remaining from a brother or sister who attended Z.L. Sung must also be settled before another family member is admitted.

Tuition/Registration fees: The major expense for the school year is the tuition. The annual tuition is broken down in ten payments and the last payment is due in May. Registration is a one-time fee due at registration. The first month's tuition and the registration fee are due on the day of registration. However, we realize this may cause a hardship to some families. To remedy this problem the registration fee may be broken into two payments with half of it being due at registration and the other half being due on January 1. Tuition is due on the 1st day of each month thereafter through May. If payment is not made by the 10th of the month, a 10% late fee is assessed to the account. If payment falls two months behind, the child will be asked not to return to school until the account is brought up to date.

Tuition Discounts: A 10% discount will be offered to anyone who would like to pay the whole year's tuition all at once at the beginning of the school year. A 5% discount will be offered to anyone who would like to pay a whole semester's tuition in advance. This must be paid before the first day of school or the first day of the second semester. Special consideration has been granted to parents with more than one child enrolled in school. There will be a 10% discount based on a sliding scale as per the following tuition schedule. The fifth child's tuition will be the same as the 4th child's tuition.

Checks: Checks being applied to a student’s account should be made payable to Z.L. Sung School. The student’s name should be written on the check to insure credit to the proper account. The school makes a charge of $20.00 if the bank does not honor a check. Teachers will not accept tuition checks or cash under any circumstances Payment should be made as instructed by the treasurer.

Refunds: When a student withdraws from school an adjustment will be made to the account so that only tuition actually used is charged. The date effective for the refund calculation is the date the student officially withdraws. For the student who withdraws before the end of the year, a per diem tuition charge for the last month will be prorated and determined by the school treasurer. However, parents must notify the teacher in writing at least one week in advance to receive a refund. The registration fee is not refundable.

Statement of Responsibility: Each student is accepted at Z.L. Sung School with the understanding that his or her parents or legal guardian is/are responsible for the legal aspects of his or her attendance, regardless of age. These include, but are not limited to, the following: a) Payment of the account b) Damage to property c) Liability through altercation.

Transcript or Diploma: Grades and transcripts will only be transferred if all expected payments are received
